Sample Letters to the Business and Professions Committee
If you write, telephone, email or fax your senator please include the
points provided in the following sample letters. One is constructed for
consumers and the other is for practitioners.

Example #1 [ For Consumers - those who use complementary or alternative
medicine (CAM)]

Dear Senator:
I utilize complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for my
health care needs and I live in your district.
I am writing/calling today to ask for your support of SB577. This bill,
authored by Senator Burton, will come before the Senate Business and
Professions Committee on January 14, 2002.
California needs SB577. A majority of Californians now use CAM. But
because of the overly broad scope of the current Medical Practice Act,
almost every kind of CAM activity in California is technically illegal.
SB577 simply narrows the scope of the Medical Practice Act so that
inherently unharmful CAM practices can be allowed. With SB577,
the countless CAM consumers and practitioners in California will no longer
have to live under a cloud of technical illegality.
Please vote for SB577 in January.

Senator about SB577. It will be disadvantageous to send a longer
message, further detail, or a "sales pitch" at this time.
If you want to send something via mail, in light of the recent
problems with letters in envelopes, you might wish to send your letter
by fax. Alternatively, a phone call would also be appropriate. Emails
are somewhatless effective, but better than no response.
